SUMMARY:Veterans Preservation Project Kick-off
DESCRIPTION:Join us for brunch and a chance to kick-off a project to preserve the stories of our most recent veterans!\n\n\n\nThe Anoka County Historical Society maintains a dedicated space in the exhibit hall to share the experiences of our veterans. Since its inception\, ACHS has worked to interpret Anoka County's involvement in major conflicts. Our next project will focus on gathering the stories from our most recent veterans who served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm\, as well as any number of missions in Kosovo\, Bosnia\, Iraq\, and Afghanistan over the last 30 years. Our goal is to record 50 oral histories\, gather artifacts to preserve this modern story in our collection\, and create an experience both online and in the exhibit hall to better help the public understand the complexities of citizen-soldiers\, robotic warfare\, and the effects on families of heavy media coverage of these deployments.\n\n \n\n \n\nIn order to accomplish our goal with this project\, we will need:\n\n Veterans willing to have a candid conversation about their deployment\, subsequent lives\, and future aspirations.\n\n Families willing to share the story of the home front challenges\, artifacts for preservation\, and photos.\n\n Funding for staff to take the time to get to know these local families\, earn their trust\, and respectfully listen to what they have to say\; for online exhibits\, digitization\, and gallery fabrication.
